For me, this Old Vine Zinfandel block is truly a labor of love. Fantastic quality and very low yield mean I can only make less than 200 cases each year, but I felt it is my duty as a steward of this beautiful land to farm these historic 97-year old vines. They make a spectacular, big fruit forward wine. This old vine zinfandel continues where the 90 Point 2008 Felicia Old Vine Zinfandel leaves off, with a bit more muscular and exotic characteristics than its sibling. The nose is more fruit dominated compared to years past with a thick, black-fruit dominated profile that carries weight into the palate. Red and black berry fruits dominate the palate with some classic Zinfandel bramble and baking spice adding complexity and helping to prolong the finish.
